Gear Review: Deuter Triack 9L Hydration Vest

Over the last month, my partner Matt and I have been testing Deuter’s Triack 9L hydration vest during trail runs across varied terrain—from the rugged Cascade Mountains in Chilliwack to the towering Rockies in Canmore. As seasoned runners, we’ve tried our fair share of vests, but the Triack 9L quickly became a standout for its lightweight design, comfortable fit, and efficient hydration storage.

Fit & Comfort

We tested both the Unisex and the Women's SL fit, and Deuter did not disappoint. The SL version, designed with a narrower shoulder harness and shorter back length, fit me perfectly, while Matt was equally impressed with the unisex version. The materials are breathable and well-padded in all the right spots, making it comfortable even on longer trails, although we mostly used it for shorter runs.

Storage & Functionality

The 9L capacity is ideal for those mid-length or shorter runs when you don’t need to carry too much gear but still want hydration, snacks, and essentials. The vest comes with multiple easy-to-reach pockets, including front stretch pockets that allowed us to grab gels and snacks on the go without breaking stride. However, the limited capacity means it’s not suited for ultra runs or all-day excursions. We see it more as a go-to for everyday trail runs.

Hydration System

The hydration system was efficient, with a well-designed compartment for the bladder as well as pockets for soft-flasks. Both Matt and I found that it delivered hydration without any sloshing, and the hose was easily accessible during runs, without getting in the way.

Durability & Design

Despite being lightweight, the vest is durable and designed for serious trail conditions. From rocky ascents to muddy paths, it held up well, and we appreciated the minimalist, streamlined design, which reduces bulk and improves overall speed and agility on technical terrain.

Overall, the Deuter Triack 9L has quickly earned a spot in our regular rotation. We’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for a light, comfortable vest for shorter to mid-length runs. It fits well, feels comfortable, and offers enough storage for essentials without slowing you down. Whether you're tackling rocky summits or winding forest paths, this vest will keep you hydrated and ready for more.
