Black Diamond Cabin: The Perfect Local Getaway

Last winter, we had the pleasure of staying at the Black Diamond Cabin, a cozy retreat nestled in the heart of the Fraser Valley’s stunning wilderness. This cabin is the perfect local getaway, whether you’re coming from Vancouver or the Fraser Valley. It’s close enough to feel convenient but far enough to feel like a true escape.

Let us tell you why we loved this cabin and why we can’t wait to return!

Getting There: Easy Directions from Vancouver and the Fraser Valley

Located in the Sasquatch Mountain Resort area, Black Diamond Cabin is just a short drive from both Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, making it an ideal spot for a weekend retreat.

From Vancouver:

  • Take Highway 1 (Trans-Canada Highway) eastbound toward Chilliwack.

  • Continue past Chilliwack and take Exit 138 (Highway 9) toward Agassiz/Harrison Hot Springs.

  • Drive north on Highway 9 for approximately 15 minutes until you reach Morris Valley Road.

  • Turn left onto Morris Valley Road and follow it for about 25 km. The road will eventually become Hemlock Valley Road.

  • Continue on Hemlock Valley Road until you reach the cabin. The drive from Vancouver takes approximately 2 to 2.5 hours, depending on weather and road conditions.

Important Notes:

  • Winter Driving: The road to Hemlock Valley can be steep and snowy in winter. Ensure your vehicle is equipped with winter tires or chains, and check road conditions before heading out.

  • GPS: While GPS can be helpful, it’s a good idea to have these written directions as a backup, as service can be spotty in the area.

The Cabin: A Home Away from Home

From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by how thoughtfully designed and well-equipped the cabin was. The hosts, Kallum and Lorilee, have truly thought of everything to make your stay comfortable and memorable.

Amenities Galore

  • Kitchen: The kitchen is a chef’s dream, fully stocked with high-quality appliances, cookware, and even baking supplies. We had so much fun whipping up Saturday morning muffins and cozy family meals.

  • Family-Friendly Features: As parents, we appreciated the little touches that made traveling with kids so much easier. The cabin has a pack-and-play, kids beds, sound machines, a high-chair, and even a separate playroom filled with toys, games, and a Super Nintendo to keep the little ones entertained.

  • Tech-Savvy Comforts: For those who need to stay connected, the cabin has Starlink Wi-Fi, which worked flawlessly. The TVs are also set up for streaming, so we enjoyed cozy movie nights after the kids went to bed.

  • Wood Fire Stove: One of our favorite features was the wood fire stove. It created a cozy atmosphere for evenings spent relaxing with charcuterie boards and wine.

  • Hot Tub: The hot tub was a highlight of our stay. Soaking in the warm water while snow fell around us was a truly relaxing experience.
